Just feel a little bit clearer with PasLab and a little bit warmer with M23.
Not sure, but i think you might even have been able to read your voice from the scope due to the acoustic >shocks<
But how does it improve the equipment it is connected to ?
Definitely audible. Review will be live early next week.
@@TheAlphaAudio So if it is audible then you should see this in the measurements ?
I've had a lot of questions about these things, and these models in particular. Thanks for finally bringing clarity to the subject. Very good video, indeed!
Welcome!
Thanks for shared this. how much influence does the power supply have on reclocking?
A lot. Power is everything.
Hi Jaap. There are different types i see in some chinese products descriptions OCXO, TCXO etc. Could you give us more info about this topic. What we should look at , is there good brand of this like nichicon etc. I saw a guy change Denafrips Ares Clocks and says step up sound quality to something like Venus
I could write something about this. Sure. It is a very, very complex topic though.
This is shocking! How to prevent this in real life? 🤔
Use decent decoupling I guess. Maybe some producers have solved it in their design?
Audiophiles say cables make a difference. Sceptics say, show me measurements. Audiophiles produce measurements. Sceptics refute, saying values are below hearing thresholds, and do a blind test. Goes round and round. Remember, the nature of Psychoacoustics and placebo can also cause sceptics due to their beliefs/understandings to perceive there are no differences when differences are perhaps real 😂
Indeed!
Holly s..t !! That's crazy!!
It is!
Howdy. Nice. I would like to add that it is assumed Hi End gear is used and the listeniing room is good. Regards.
Of course.
Do the same on the Stella Utopia, the Bryston should demonstrate it's power advantage on more full-range speakers. Great job on the video, sounds wonderful all the way through.
You’re measuring artifacts on a 10 nanosecond scale and they aren’t even a whole division long meaning, they are above 100 MHz. There is no way the human ear can hear that. Please, just stop with using this as evidence for audible differences.
If you take the time to comment, please also take the time watch the whole video. That way you would know why we use these signals. I also explain it extensively in the written article.
I would love to have one of your c wave products but I am afraid I could never afford $20K+ for an amplifier. It’s funny. Digital audio has been around for 60 years (or more). Now I need a 20k amp to “fix” the pcm? So, If we take pcm and convert it to analog using D to A is it not continuous? The quantization is an approximation (discontinuous)but isn’t the D to A creating a continuous waveform? I am a bit confused. We don’t hear digital. So you are saying the digital converted to analog is not continuous? Would like to understand more how exactly this tech works. What is suspect is that there is something added to the digital before analog conversion that “smears” the digital to make it sound more analog. Adding reverb? To fill in the missing? What I have found is that chip based ADC and DACs do not sound as good as early digital. Those Telarc disks from 80s sound phenomenal.
hey guys.. thanks for the work .. fun to watch, entertaining, ..(although maybe next time test it with streamers/DACs/amps of the 2020s.. ;-)) I am thinking of upgrading my power supplies.. so one question, one comment: which power filtering system/ conditioner or whatever to use for devices with switch mode power supplies?? ( I own a decent Linn streamer/DAC ) ... how about power regenerators i.e. ps audio.. that ok for switch mode device + torroidal in one system ?? .. you know, its hard for normal customers to test this amount of devices at home and only keep the best one for your system...
I use a Primare Pre35 Prisma with the DM35 fitted and to be honest it sound absolutely fine for our needs. I have heard the DM36 can be a bit analytical but listening to it on my tablet it's hard to tell. I use analogue 95% of the time and my wife uses the CD35 transport and streaming services, so it's not really an issue for me. Also the £800 to upgrade to the DM36 on top of the £4,000 I paid for the Pre35 Prisma makes an external DAC look more feasible. P.s The Primare i35 is class D and I use my Primare Pre35 with a class A/B power amp and it sounds sublime.
I can see that you are measuring the noise in the Audio region viz. 20 Hz to 20KHz. But which noise are you measuring? If you want to look at the EMI reduction which all of these products, which they all are supposed to do, then you need to look beyond 20KHz till 100 MHz, as your main EMI is lying in that frequency range which is due to SMPS, VFD motors etc. Also see for dB reduction in noise because thats the scientific way of measuring things.
In the review we will publish both. No worries.
@@TheAlphaAudio looking forward to those measurements
Wow! Great review! Jaap, I'm also a rock n roll guy so I'm interested in the Cambridge Cxa81. Do you think they'd pair well with Sonus Faber Lumina II? Greetings from Mexico. Thanks
Thanks. CA must work on the Lumina. No problem. Atoll can work as well. More warmth and balls I guess.
@@TheAlphaAudio Great! Thanks so much for your response!
I think Pascal sounds best 😊
A comparison between sine wave and multi wave would be interesting. Along with a comparison between multi wave strength 1 to 6 and normal vs high current outlets. Based on what people are doing in the PS audio forums, you use sine wave for tubes and multi wave strength 6 for solid state.
hi between this denon pma1700ne and yamaha as1200 for my wharfedale linton speakers what would you choose? i want a full sound neutral but not fatiguing or bright thanks

@@kodtech we don't have good relations with both unfortunately.
@@TheAlphaAudio anyway, GREAT PRESENTATION! ...for my surprise, the digital-in sound more detailed than analog-in, which in my opinion sound muffled (but could be the DAC's fault)

PS audio power plants Power surges in import Equi=Core much better 😊
I don't get this... Sorry. Maybe cultural thing.
Yes it's expensive but in my opinion the best way to go for clean power. I have a P15 and a P20 and I'm very happy with it. The difference is not huge but noticeable. Also a big advantage is the regulated power output and the low impedance. The power Amp always gets the power it needs because of the large capacity of the capacitors
Indeed. That's also a big advantage.
Demo Shunyata Research Denali 6000s v2 20amp 20 amp dedicated line 😊
They all sound the same
Do you have a video where you show the detail of the equipment you're using to measure this? I am curious to try and do this myself (I have a Rigol scope, but the FFT you're doing is probably run in your computer).
I have a Prism dScope III. But you can also use a Picoscope for example. We have a Picoscope 5000 series as well and it is brilliant. The Prism has the right scripts to pre set it for these measurements though. That is very convenient. The AC generator I use to feed it, is a GW Instek.
I'm all-in on exploring what really matters when it comes to accurate and emotionally-moving music reproduction. I'm a drummer/percussionist and saxophone musician. So, from the MUSIC RECORDING & PRODUCTION viewpoint, I think it might be revealing and telling to pose, or AT LEAST CONSIDER & CONTEMPLATE, the following questions and information. From my many years of being a musician, IME, the Professional audio Recording/Mixing/Mastering Engineers that Produce ALL of the Music that we Actually LISTEN TO (including "audiophile" recordings) would use an *EQ* or other studio equipment to achieve "a more full and rounded sound" OR any other desirable effect or change in sonic quality or sonic character of the music they are creating/producing. Essentially NONE of these professionals would "SWAP" or "Change" their Speaker Cables OR Power Cables to do this, or to "lower the distortion and noise floor". Go look behind the Multitudes of inter-connected rack-mount studio gear in any of the most respected and revered pro studios, including their very expensive multi-channel studio-grade ADCs, DACs, and precision Master Word Clocks, and you will find that ALL of this gear is connected to the AC Mains power using the Generic UL/CE/NEMA listed & approved Power Cable that was Supplied By The Manufacturer. In my many years I have NEVER seen a studio or recording engineer use any type of "special" or "exotic" aftermarket power cables or speaker cables. @AlphaAudio Jaap, I'm curious what type of power cable Eelco Grimm provides with the Grimm Audio MU2??? For all of the EXTENSIVE research, design, and engineering that was put into producing and manufacturing such a high-end and expensive component, do you think Eelco would purposely sacrifice or "Gimp" its performance by supplying it with a "basic" off-the-shelf IEC power cable? SPOILER!: Look at the internal product photos of this unit on the Grimm Audio website. This unit is shown with a generic CE/IEC/NEMA AC power socket on the back panel. Now look at the INTERNAL Power Wiring that is connected to the internal PSU at the side corner of the blue PCB. Surprise! It's your basic off-the-shelf power cable and wiring...not braided, not oversized, not silver conductors, and no special shielding, etc. ...BASIC "off-the-shelf" power cord and wire! THEN take a look at the USB connection! For THIS type of device, this particular cable SHOULD BE of the Upmost Importance, correct??? And yet, Eelco chose a basic/standard 26 AWG USB cable...AND it isn't even "hard-wired" to the USB socket/jack on the back of the unit! The rear-panel USB jack has another USB Type-B female jack on the Inside that a separate, STANDARD and basic male USB Type-B "printer cable" is plugged into! I don't know of ANY other high-end device where I would think uber high-end cables would be chosen and absolutely necessary, yet they are clearly off-the-shelf and "nothing special"! There are usually Tens to Hundreds of studio-grade AC-powered equipment in any professional studio, and for some strange reason [/s], 99.9% of them don't believe that changing the power cables OR speaker cables will improve their performance or sound. Hmmmm? What do they all KNOW that we don't??? Honest question: IF the professional engineers that Record & Produce ALL of the Music that we Actually Listen To do not "swap" their speaker cables or power cables in order to achieve some sort of "synergy" or a particular sound characteristic in the music, should YOU as a listener bother to do this or worry about this??? In addition, roughly 90% of music is now produced using Active, Self-Powered Studio Monitor systems with Built-In Class D amplification (OMG!) where there are ZERO external speaker cables that can be swapped. AND, those Active, Powered Professional Studio Monitors are connected to the AC Mains using the manufacturer-supplied GENERIC POWER CABLE. So where does that leave this debate??? For example, quite a few respected Mastering Engineers use the *Kii Audio Three* active/powered/DSP monitoring system, or other similar industry-standard active studio monitors that have built-in amplification. NONE that I know or have seen have ever used anything but the supplied AC power cables, and they obviously can't and don't feel the need to change the internal speaker wiring. In fact, the manufacturers of these Multiple Thousand $$$$$ studio monitors would probably void the warranty IF they found that the speaker wiring had been changed by the user. I would guess [sic] that MOST mastering engineers probably have pretty d@mn good ears and are Trained or have learned "how to listen" and how to evaluate or judge the Sound Quality to a much higher degree than most common listeners. Many of the best engineers are musicians themselves and obviously play/perform with many other musicians who play ALL TYPES of instruments. Therefore they KNOW exactly how most acoustic instruments sound in REAL LIFE and IF what they are hearing out of their Calibrated Monitors is Lifelike, or NOT. ;) In addition, tracking (recording) engineers have the live musicians and their actual instruments in the studio as a direct reference. But again, [for SOME reason] the ACTUAL RECORDING PROFESSIONALS and MUSICIANS do NOT feel the need or choose to use "special" aftermarket power cables or speaker cables. Try this: Pick your favorite and best sounding album or recording, then look up who the tracking, mixing, and mastering engineers were that worked on the recording(s) and ask each of them, "What Power Cables Do You Use"? They'll most likely respond with a funny and perplexed look on their face, LOL, like "WTF?". Sure, SOME of them MAY have a preference for using certain balanced XLR microphone or signal cables, but you will find that the vast majority are "okay" with using standard Mogami or similar "basic" brand-name cables. HOWEVER, ALL of these studio engineering Professionals DO use MANY different types (and multiple instances of) EQUALIZATION in order to achieve "a more full and rounded sound" OR to achieve any other desired sonic characteristic. And yet, the majority of "audiophools" still think that EQ is evil and/or always detrimental. 🤷♂
I think the phase tune should be left at 0, if the in THD is low. I think this is what PS Audio told me about this setting. Each time I select Auto tune, I get a different number on my P15. The powerplant will make noise from DC input, but it should eliminate it on the devices connected to it, like you are seeing. Another UA-camr didn't like the DC blocking performance from the IsoTek product and found the Puritan p156 worked better. I can't recommend the P12, because of the fan noise. A P15/20 are much better options. Dual P15s with their own dedicated lines would be a good setup. I plan on upgrading the outlets to Furutech NCF on my P15 in the future.
Thanks Jaap,, 🍻😎👍
Wonderful info. Best of all you make ASR look like a putz. 😂
That is not the goal. I just have my way of measuring equipment.
@@TheAlphaAudioI appreciate your honest aim to represent the measurement equipment in its intended purposes. ❤
@@Nephilim-81 very welcome.
It would be interesting to see , what effect, let's say 15-20 volt below the specified grid voltage , the effect that would have !
We tested it with a PS Audio. That unit can handle a pretty wide range without issues. Normal conditioners don't fix that.
Great info, thank you.
Great info. Thank you! Do you have examples of what contributes to grid noise in a typical home?
Solar panels, all switchmode power supplies, car chargers... Etc...
Really good video, thank you.
Is it possible to measure how dynamics are affected? I believe this is what often is described as the downside with powerplants and filters.
I wish we could. That is our biggest challenge.
Let me posit a question. If the majority of recorded music that we listen to has on average just 12dB-15dB of Dynamic Range, how important is it to seek out electronic HiFi components with S/N or DR higher than the -80dB average?
@@bbfoto7248 noise floor is different from dynamic range.
@@TheAlphaAudio Of course. But the combined Noise floor inherent in the recording, playback equipment, AND listening environment essentially masks and limits the potential dynamic range we can perceive. Even a very quiet room will have a noise floor of 28dBA-33dBA. So if there are spatial imaging cues in a recording (let's say very low-level room/wall boundary reflections in a concert hall) which might help to give us a sense of the size and "space" or ambiance of the venue, that inherent noise floor of our listening room might mask that information, so essentially dynamic range is reduced or limited. Can you hear a proverbial "pin drop" when even a very faint jet airliner at high altitude temporarily flies overhead in an otherwise "silent" environment? It makes it way more difficult, if not impossible. It doesn't matter what the dynamic range is if those very soft/quiet parts in the music or any recording are masked by inherent ambient noise levels when being played back. Also, while not directly related, just for fun, look up the best possible channel separation specs or stereo "crosstalk" of a high end turntable cartridge/stylus that's used for playing vinyl records. Some people might be surprised, LOL. Yet somehow there is still heaps of L vs R spatial information when we play back vinyl records such as DSOTM, etc.
Can you do measurement and video on using Battery power with an inverter. Essentially battery is perfect but it need an inverter which is a necesary evil to comvert it from dc to ac, the inverter creates some noise tho.
We can try. I don't have an inverter laying around though.
@@TheAlphaAudioTruth !! The Power Plant is a repackaged inverter ACtoDCtoAC you build a 2000 watt for under $1000. Remember it only works up to the capacitor load
@@thinkIndependent2024 of course it works like that. There is no other way to regenerate to AC.
@@TheAlphaAudio A 1000watt inverter should cost about 60 euros, batteries usually more expensive and i have heard from gr research (youtuber) thath higher amps batteries sounded better. Also there is alot of noise reduction cicrcuits, that im not sure the regular inverters use, perhaps a audiophile inverter Might be cool. Alot of potential in this i think.
In regard to thermal distortion, that could be one reason class a amps sound so good. Because the current trough the transistors always remains the same, therefore no change in temperature. Also, all other electrical components remain at a consistent temperature once warmed up fully.
Probably!
Keep exploring, testing, & tinkering.
We will!
Looks like your grid power is pretty clean to start with. In your lab environment, it's useless, let's be honest. At home? maybe your power is very different, maybe cleaner, maybe shittier. Test your power noise before buying such equipment! or buy better audio equipment with better power supplies.
If you have the possibility to test your grid, that would be perfect. And always try before you buy!
Will try it next time. Thanks for the feedback.
I step up to 300v ac, better sound stage and timbre
ok, that generator does a lot if it cost couple of undred euros... but that cost MUCH more... so thank you, very useful video!
Great demo and analysis! With all due respect, around 13:50 you commented that the flattened top of sine wave was from DC while that's actually a sum of odd order harmonic distortion like clipping. DC would offset the zero crossing point of the sinewave, not flatten the tops. Keep up the excellent work, your videos are unique and valuable.
Thanks for pointing it out!
Great video. I do wonder what people saying it doesn't work really mean? It cost too much? They didn't hear a difference in their system? Or something else? I'd love to have a regenerator, just not in my budget. Personally it was easier to tell if the AC conditioner was bad in all the systems I've had vs if it was doing its job.
Thanks!
💯💯💯
Is it worth the money for such a small improvement?
Who said the audible difference is small?
@@TheAlphaAudio Was the audible difference large? I know some amplifier designers, Bob Carver for example, say you shouldn't use power conditioners with their amplifiers.
Power conditioner is NOT a power plant. I use my entire system with a powerplant it's very big, including my amp. Look up "Doc Audio" and listen to the demos I think you will be blown away
@@mddawson1 like I said in the video... I haven't auditioned it yet.
The benefit of PowerPlants is not just THD, but also power capacity it's able to deliver without lowering it's output voltage (e.g. it's low impedance power source).
I like the Yamaha’s brightness and the Advanced Paris though they are all great sounding works of art.😊
Sonus Faber Lumina II is indisputable in all segments!

Not sure of the comment that you wouldn't put one of these in a system like this and only talk of pairing with 1000 euro speakers. I thought these latest class d amps nearly provide audibly faultless performance and much better than than class A/B etc at 5 times the price. Do I have to go back to looking at overpriced class A amps again 😂
